ABOUT JEREMY CRUTCHLEY
Jeremy Crutchley is well known for his range of Film and Television work: in 2014 he'll appear in the eagerly anticipated US TV Series "Black Sails" and recently played the lead role in the psychological thriller "RETRIBUTION" (nominated Best Actor at the 2012 SAFTAs), yet his dedication to Theatre remains strong.
His most recent live work is the new solo performance “SACRED ELEPHANT”, adapted for the stage from the epic poem by internationally renowned writer Heathcote Williams. This has already received critical and public acclaim, attracting three Nominations at the 2013 Fleur Du Cap Theatre Awards, for Best Actor, Best Solo Performance and Best Costume Design. Starting life in Cape Town, the show is bound for New York in September 2013 at La MaMa's The First Floor Theatre*.
In 2009, he celebrated more than 30 years in the Theatre, both in South Africa and the U.K., with the opening of Doug Wright's international hit “I Am My Own Wife”. This performance kicked off the Grahamstown Arts Festival and ran to rave reviews. The production attracted 6 Nominations at the 2010 Fleur du Cap Theatre Awards in South Africa winning three, including both Best Actor and Best Solo Performance. He also won Best Actor in the previous year for his performance as Shylock in "The Merchant Of Venice", going on to play King Alonso in "The Tempest" at Stratford-Upon-Avon and on the sell-out UK national tour for The Royal Shakespeare Company.
He has brought to life many great roles in contemporary & modern works, such as Father Flynn in "Doubt" or Jerry in Harold Pinter’s "Betrayal", then moving to classical roles such as Malvolio in Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night" - also nominated for the Fleur Du Cap Theatre Award. Jeremy made an impact in the 80’s as Slim in Sam Shepard’s "Cowboy Mouth", then later as Alan Strang in Peter Shaffer’s "Equus". He has also given award-winning performances of such diverse characters as Bessmertny in "Sarcophagus", Song Liling in "M.Butterfly", and H.R.H. The Duke of Windsor in the Solo-show "I Was King".
In the UK in the ‘90’s, he performed at The Theatre Royal Windsor, followed by Repertory at the renowned Off-West-End Orange Tree Theatre, also appearing in various TV productions for the BBC. In 2003, he created the role of Dr. Drabble in the black comedy "The Dice House" for a successful West End run.
Always a rocker at heart, he wrote and played the music & lyrics for his own Rock Theatre work "Bloodbreath Anaesthetic"(1978), "Sloper / Demolisher"(’82), and composed and performed original material for Brian Aldiss’ "Brothers Of The Head"(’84). When "The Rocky Horror Show" finally hit South Africa in 1992, he played Dr Frank’n’Furter in the original cast. His blues-rock music surfaced again in 2010 when he wrote and recorded his first studio album, titled "RELEASE", for which he also conceived and directed a music video. He named his band The Standing Wave.
Recent Television appearances include: "Miss Marple: A Carribbean Mystery"(BBC), “Kidnap And Ransom”(ITV); Martina Cole’s “The Runaway” (Sky TV); and “Women In Love” (BBC). He resumes his role as The Glock, with John Cleese in the Feature Film, “Spud:The Madness Continues” to be released in 2013.
Jeremy is also in demand as a highly experienced Voice artist.
He is married and in precious free time, loves to paint the odd picture, ride the occasional horse, and play guitar whenever possible.
